Who knew a company annual report could be so much fun? Not I that’s for sure.
After much writing, editing, internet searches and scribbles I hereby declare my draft of ASS#1 Steps 2 through to 6 ready for reading. May god have mercy on your souls.
To be honest I feel it’s a bit of an epic at 13 pages and I apologize in advance to any of you brave souls who want to have a look and give me some feedback.
I suggest you get a warm (or cold, not judging) beverage of your choice, a comfy chair and get settled before attempting to read it.
The spreadsheet is also embedded in the document. This I found harder than I should’ve done. Mainly as I only printed the financial reports from the 2018 report and had to hand write on all the earlier numbers, which was a bit of a nuisance. The other bit that slowed me down was watching the tutorial video. This could do with some editing as I found myself pausing it, adding some bits to my sheet, then having to wait for the next bit of guidance to be reveled.
I did draw some parallels though in the fact that I’m sure my children at that age would not have been happily gurgling in the background. May be that was the clever editing?
What I haven’t done is chosen my top 3 blogs. I’ve put my contenders in the draft, it’s still an open race and of course I am open to bribes. As for feedback I’ve provided bits and pieces to people on their blogs and stuff, I’ll start on the drafts tomorrow.
Enough of my ramblings and let’s skip to the good bit.

wow. What a read. Your right a cold beverage was in order. Very professionally written and I like the personal touches where you reflected with your own work history. I was struggling with my step 5 and thought when I saw your blog it might give me some inspiration. It has given me some great insight on what they are looking for step 5. Thank you. Keep up the exceptional work. I would love to hear about your work history. Sounds very intriguing.

Thanks Leigh, glad you enjoyed it and glad you got something out of it. You’ll need more than one cold beverage to hear my work history, I’ve packed a lot in. Any areas where I need to change or edit?

Great stuff Paul, Feedback below.
– Check your number formatting on line 34 – PPP and other investments – it looks differnet to the rest of your data.
– Add in some hyperlinks to the relevant reports in the documentation section. This allows people to cross check your data as they read it.
– Good use of formating to dffer between totals etc, makes it easier on the eye.

Cheers Hayden I’d missed that formatting good pickup. Good suggestion on the hyperlinks, hadn’t considered that. Any thoughts on the text?

It is amazing the amount of effort you have putted to analyse your annual report and the information about your company thought I could not understand a lot of them because if will try to do that it will take me a week or more.

Thank you. It took a bit of time, there were lots of threads to pull and I did do a couple of late nights on it. In the end I had to stop otherwise it would have really blown out. I’ve actually neglected my other unit as I was enjoying myself

Hi Paul,
I think you need to check your Income Statement and add row for ‘Revenue’ then to put your formula which is ( Total Revenue – Finance Income/ Interest income. You can double check that in Maria’s video the few last minutes.
Cheers,

What a great draft! Definitely given me a lot of inspiration on how to better my own. You took an awesome first step of looking to the news to first gain an outside perspective of your firm prior to accessing the financial reports. I have fallen over with this step when I struggled to find anything to grab my attention and left it until last, now I need to try again. I particularly like how in depth you have gone with your analysis of key issues. You noted a large change in profit, searched for reasons, outlined the steps the company have taken to deal with that issue and then found where they have placed that information throughout the report. It shows you have great skill when it comes to analysing a document and critically thinking about the information that has been put in front of you. Very impressive!
